hamsters Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 whilst on way to work this morning ithe coil light came on with a warning message of "engine workshop" it stayed on for over 5 minutes and then kept dissapearing and returning every few seconds (no it wasnt blinking!) i still havent managed to rectify the bulb illuminator problem either yet! so dash is starting to look like a christmas tree! question is the local dealership cant see it till Monday is it okay to drive there appears to be no loss of power or any other indication that the engune is not well Quote
seatkid Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 This is often associated with faulty brake bulbs and/or faulty brake switch and has been covered many times before! Try a search for brake switch :) I suggest you resolve your bulb check issue first....treat yourself to some new bulbs (of the correct type!) which one was it that blew? Quote
Guest JohnP Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 Can confirm - my 1.9TDi started showing the coil lamp yesterday - Haynes manual helpfully said 'send to suitably equipped garage', the handbook even less helpful in not mentioning it at all. To cut a long story short, a quick search here (search on 'brake light switch') revealed that the brake light circuit is most often the problem and I've just saved myself an expensive trip to the main agent. I checked the fuse (#20 on my version) =ok and just drepressed the switch button twice to confirm the fault then twisted it left and right a couple of times with the brake pedal depressed (should wipe the switch contacts together) - problem sorted.John Quote
